OYASHIMA

The country of Oyashima

Oyashima is one of the most powerful countries to date despite its relatively small size, and brags the leading military within Earendel. It is home to the C.D.C. and a good chunk of Guilds, as well as an epicenter of dragon and chimera activity. Before the continents shifted, it was once considered Japan, as well as parts of Korea, Russia, and China. Its main language is Japanese, but its inner cities support a variety of languages. Its outer borders consist mostly of primitive countryside villages.

Oyashima means "Great Country of Eight/Many Islands" and was once used as a name for Japan.

Notable Locations Within Oyashima

Isaka — One of the bigger cities within Oyashima, and is rampant with pollution and crime. It is home to the Isaka Guild, a medium-sized Guild division with a radius extending past Isaka’s boundaries. Some named locations within Isaka include:

  • The Newfate District — Where the Sen no Kyou Building (Maria's apartment complex) and West 10-08 (the school Maria teaches at) is located
  • The Kawa District — Where Yamabe lives; where a string of serial killings are taking place; and where Lux's hotel, Kodachi Hotel, is located at the address of 63-12. Kawa means "river" in Japanese.
  • The Akaki District — A district on the northwest border of Isaka

Mizukyo — A small, isolated village once located in the vast countryside of Oyashima. It burned down in a cataclysmic fire caused by a rampant dragon, and, supposedly, one of its inhabitants may have survived its utter obliteration. Mizukyo is a Japanese word, originating from something like "watering hole".

Yokuchi — A modest village smack-dab in the middle of nowhere, hosting only a couple hundred occupants. Its economy thrives best off its location as a rest stop between Suzuran and Yasumi, and many of the businesses here are bed-and-breakfasts. There is only one established motel, liberally named Yokuchi Haven. Yokuchi means "oasis" in Japanese.

Yasumi — A medium-sized town. Yasumi means "respite" in Japanese.

Suzuran — A large city. Suzuran means "lily of the valley" in Japanese.
