DICTIONARY
The full WoM terminology bank
The world of WoM has a lot of terminology unique to its lore, so provided here is a dictionary encompassing a rundown of all terminology, dragon species, locations, and pretty much anything else you can think of pertaining to WoM's world. In the future, I would like to integrate a tagging system that can sort terms by topic, but until then, you can do so by pressing CTRL + F (or however you activate your browser's find function) and typing one of the following tags with the # symbol included:
#locations, #dragons, #tools, #guild, #chimeras, #subspecies, #taxonomy, #slaying, #sephraim

See dragonsuit.
Associate (Guild role)
#guild
The highest skill-based rank a Guild’s dragonslayer may achieve, preceded by first-class dragonslayer, although it is more of a time-given promotion than it is a skill-given one. To be an associate means one has been a longtime member and a seasoned first-class dragonslayer, and they are greatly respected by those of lower rank. Only associates may be promoted to captain.
Auto-reel

#guild
Two or more neighboring Guild divisions grouped together for various purposes.
C
Back to topCaptain (Guild role)

A Guild may have one or more captains depending on its size, and a captain(s) serve as a right-hand man or a committee in aid to the commander, carrying out the commander’s orders and acting in his absence. One captain is chosen as a replacement for the commander should he pass away or retire.
C.D.C.
#guild
See Commission of Dragon Countermeasure.
Chimera
#chimeras
A once-human person infected by chimeric DNA. They have the abilities to disguise as a human and shapeshift into a dragon, and may wield other heightened abilities. Upon conversion, many chimeras will begin to gradually lose their mental stability, sentience, and sapience over time, and are often regarded as dangerous due to this significant factor. Most humans outside of the Guild are somewhat unaware of their existence beyond rumor, and those who do know of them fear them.
Chimera blood
#chimeras
The blood of a chimera. If it enters a human’s body—and both the human‘s and the chimera’s blood types match—the human will become infected. Apparently, normal chimera blood has an interesting interaction with natal chimera blood.
Chimeric
#chimeras
Of, or related to, a chimera (i.e. chimeric blood, chimeric DNA).

#tools, #slaying
A wide, sturdy blade designed to decapitate dragons; it has a distinct recurve to maximize its chopping capabilities. It is known to dull quickly.

Colonel (Guild role)
#guild
A chairman who maintains a Guild municipality, in charge of communicating between the base of operations and a select number of Guild divisions assigned under his dominion.

#guild
A Guild formation made up of several squads, of which a single captain maintains. This formation is loose, and mostly exists for organizational purposes.
Fifth-class dragonslayer, fifth-class slayer, fifth class
#guild
Of the numbered ranks, fifth class is the lowest there is. Fifth-class dragonslayers may go unsupervised and attend fieldwork with their squad, but they still attend classes alongside juniors. They are preceded by juniors and succeeded by fourth-class dragonslayers.
First-class dragonslayer, first-class slayer, first class
#guild
Among the numbered ranks, this is the highest skill-based rank a Guild dragonslayer may achieve. It is awarded to those who exceed expectations, do something particularly formidable, or consistently maintain top of their class. They are preceded by second-class dragonslayers, and succeeded by associates.
Fourth-class dragonslayer, fourth-class slayer, fourth class

G
Back to topGallia

H
Back to topHookclaw
#tools, #slaying
A mechanism dragonslayers wear to confront dragons with ease. It is made up of an auto-reel, attached to the belt, which contains a coiled hookline with a clawed hook on the outer end. This hook can be deployed to anchor onto an elevated object, and the auto-reel will then launch its user to that elevation. This allows for quick navigation and an easier approach to subduing large dragons.
Hookline
#tools, #slaying
The coiled cord inside of the auto-reel of a hookclaw. It can wind or unwind manually or automatically. It is made of sturdy material to handle weight and prevent breakage, such as nylon, polyester, or dragonmetal.

J
Back to topJunior (Guild role)
#guild
The absolute lowest rank a Guild member may have. It is a new recruit to the Guild who primarily attends academic classes and rudimentary training for dragonslaying. Lucidity, lucidness
#chimeras
The level of sapience, sentience, and self-awareness a chimera has in their dragon form; to be lucid is to be sapient. When a chimera shapeshifts out of panic, they will lose their lucidity—and if they are not lucid, they will blindly rampage as a dragon. Chimeras do not have any memory of their time spent as a non-lucid dragon.
Lumbar blade
#tools, #slaying
A thin, pointed blade with a slight hook at the tip, designed to puncture the spine at the base of a dragon’s tail and induce temporary paralysis.
M

A mysterious type of chimera that was not converted via chimeric DNA, rather was born as a chimera. They share some, but not all traits with the common converted chimera. Not much is known about them; there is only one recorded case of a natal chimera, who is believed to have perished in Mizukyo’s fire.

#locations
A region of united countries making up about one-half of Amasia, the other half being Earendel. There are wartime tensions between the two.
Q

R
Back to topRoyal water
#tools, #slaying
A 1:3 ratio of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid. This concoction can dissolve gold and dragonmetal, and so it is weaponized against dragons and chimeras by attacking the gold bonds in their bloodstreams. It is worth noting that royal water generally cannot significantly harm or kill a dragon or chimera, but it will make them very sluggish and lethargic. A large enough dose of it can temporarily prevent a chimera from transforming. It is also known as aqua regia and nitrohydrochloric acid.
Ruthenia
#locations
The largest country in Amasia, and also one of the most powerful, acting as the leading country of Proxima. Despite this, its land is war-torn and its people live in poor conditions. It has a strong, oppressive military presence and harsh winters, making for a relatively unappealing location. It is descended from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. There is a concentrated level of Sephraim-bloods here, and Ruthenia’s army takes great interest in them.

Second-class dragonslayer, second-class slayer, second class
#guild
The second highest skill-based rank among the numbered ranks, preceded by third-class dragonslayers and succeeded by first-class dragonslayers. Second-class dragonslayers go out of their way to prove consistent competency and reliability. This is the point with which rank superiority begins to truly matter in the hierarchy, as it is the lowest rank to be entrusted with shadowing newbies.
Sephraim
#sephraim
A draconic deity idolized in Sephrism. They are said to have created dragons as punishment for human sin, and live in a perpetual cycle of death and rebirth, of which Their status is reflected in the present-day nature of dragons.
Sephraim-blood
#sephraim
See Sephraim’s blood. Shorthand for a human who has Sephraim’s blood in their veins.
Sephraim’s blood
#sephraim
An extremely rare type of blood found naturally in humans. It causes immunity to chimera conversion, and is of unknown origin, seemingly present from birth. It is not well-known outside of Ruthenia; in Ruthenia, it is seen as a religious blessing in the eyes of Sephrists, and is coveted by the Ruthenian government for its great potential in biological warfare. Supposedly, a natal chimera’s blood is the one thing that will infect someone with Sephraim’s blood.

Tiger’s eye dragon
#dragons, #subspecies
A subspecies of dragon with X-ray vision, allowing it to see through and into objects or even living things. This enhanced sense of sight can make them challenging to approach stealthily.
