An Introduction to Dragons
“Dragons are large, ferocious beasts with an uncanny resemblance to the reptiles and other animals of yore. They’ve garnered worldwide infamy for their destructive tendencies and unusual taste for human flesh. Their atrocities as a collective species have resulted in a long and arduous history involving interspecies strife and human-targeted warfare. They are dangerous creatures who seek, kill, and consume humans on a mass scale, and are capable of utterly razing villages and cities lacking in adequate defenses. Civilians should avoid contact with dragons and report sightings to a local Dragonslayer’s Guild, whose adherents are equipped to dispatch dragons safely and efficiently. Failure to comply may result in significant fatalities.”
— The Oyashima government’s description of dragons
Perhaps dragons are sold a little too aggressively to the population. Of course, they are dangerous and prone to preying upon humans, but most of the danger lies in the chimeric disease, turning people into the very mindless predators they fear no thanks to the scientists behind such a feat. Dragons are a wild animal, and as many wild animals are, they are dangerous and capable of harming and/or feeding on humans.
Dragons are known by a few names, for the record:
- Dragon — Your typical English term.
- 大蛇 Orochi — A Japanese term originating from the myth of Yamata no Orochi, carrying deeply negative connotations.
- 龍 Ryuu — Your typical Japanese term. Sephrists use this term in a highly honorable context.
